Jim Mandich

Jim Mandich, who spent 9 years in the NFL, got his radio career started at WIOD in 1983, before joining WQAM in 1997.  The Mad Dog, as he is known, worked as the Dolphins color commentator from 1992 - 2004, and continued to call the games again this past season.

When you call his show, Jim just wants you to bring it. "Have a point, and get to it."

Favorite Sports Memory: Michigan v Ohio State 1969 / Miami Dolphins 1972 Perfect Season.

Popular Mandich Quotes: "Riding around with your windows down" "Peachy Keen" "Everyday is a holiday" "Couldn't be better if I were twins"

Mandich played at the University of Michigan from 1967-1969 and then professionally with the Miami Dolphins from 1970 - 1977, before retiring with the Steelers in 1978. He was a key member of the historical, 1972 Miami Dolphins undefeated team and his association with the Fins remains strong. He was a 2004 inductee into the College Football Hall of Fame, a captain of the 1969 Michigan team and that same year a unanimous choice as a First Team All-America.

Although lighter than most tight ends, Mandich created havoc for opponents with his fierce competitiveness and acrobatic pass catching. He spent eight years with the Dolphins, amassing 119 receptions for 1,406 yards (11.6) and 23 touchdowns. Mandich caught a winning three-yard touchdown pass with 1:28 to play against Minnesota (10/1/72), which helped to preserve the unbeaten season. As Coach Shula said, "He just continues to make plays for us. He has done that right from the beginning." One of every five Mandich receptions went for a touchdown, illustrating his play-making ability.

ps... Don't call him Jimmy...
